Evidence Archive for 1Q84 papers, Monday assignment (also: articles on drive are now in Posts for reading).

OK, for next Monday, let's share  in Comments the following:

Material/evidence relating to our paper projects, including page number references, summaries of action and scenes, direct quotations, and hypotheses/theses re likely topics.

Relevant critical views.

Any and all thoughts and speculations at large.

This can be loose rather than finished writing--the idea is to build up energy for the paper through some teaming up.

Also note: the articles I had on Google Drive are now in the blog Posts and may be read there (see preceding and Older posts).

  2. The topic for my paper I want to focus on is "1Q84 and the Revolution to Reality." The idea for this topic first was to be about the novel as a revolutionary work against authority/society, however, the text also is about rebelling against the boundaries of the real world which the universe of 1Q84 represents. Through my research, I found so far one news article and a periodical which seem pertinent to my topic. The news article titled "Vision Amid The Chaos" by James Boyd Maunsell describes Murakami's novel as a "extraordinary feat of sustained imagination" although it extends barely on "his bizarre portrait of a world in which things are "off by a millimeter" with only few edits on the reality aspects of his novel. Emily Parker's periodical "How To Read Murakami" I found to be an interesting source in relation to my topic. In it Parker gives tips to other readers of the novel, especially pointing out the more one reads into the universe of 1Q84 "the less you question your surroundings and also how the Little People are "an invisible presence" whom are difficult to distinguish between bad or good. Parker also asks the question if Murakami's story is from his own imagination, in reading 1Q84, are we learning more about the author's viewpoint between reality and fiction? I hope to find another scholarly source to use in writing more on the topic I am intrigued to research which also describes 1Q84 as a text that turns the rules of reality on its head.
